Johan Faber was born in the winter of ’69 in Grootegast. His interests in music started in the early years. During his childhood he was playbacking songs of U2 and Twisted Sister with friends during a local playback show. At the age of 18 he realized listening was not enough. So he bought a guitar and took some lessons. Inspired by Marty Friedman (ex-Megadeth, ex-Cacophony and some solo projects) he tried to put his emotions into the instrument. In 1990 Johan joined the trashband Krachmacher, as a guitarist. Later the singer left the band and Johan also did some vocals. A lot of gigs they played, VERA, POP=Prima Final (2nd) at the Oosterpoort in front of 1000 people and a lot of pubs.
In 1996 Krachmacher split up. Johan with the other gitarist en the bass player started a new band, called Insomnia. The music of Insomnia is quite bizarre. A drummodule and some synthesizers kept together with Cubase, a live guitar and 1 or 2 voices. Insomnia played 2 gigs. After that it was like the fire in the band slowly went out. Johan needed more satisfaction and decided to look out for another band, as a singer. During the time, he even did a gig alone. In his little home-studio he produced a tape with drumcomputer, bass and some synthesizers, live he did the vocals and played guitar. He also played a few covers (Maiden, Radiohead, The Cure).
Then the phone rang and Siger called him up to join Awake. Founded on bands like Maiden and Queensryche, this was just the band he was looking for. Especially when it turned out the others were willing to incorporate most of his influences and take the band into a new direction. Still Johan continued to make music just for himself. Early 2002 he decided to do something with these ideas and so he formed a 'side project' called Radius. He asked Danny to play bass and Johan Dijkhuis from Vicious Visjes (see also the bios from the other band members) to play drums. So far they played one gig and produced one demo cd.
