With Johan as a new singer the sound of Awake has of course changed a bit. It is taking the band some time to record a worthy successor to Tidal Wave. Johan had to find his place within the band but he accomplished this very fast. In June 2000 he showed up one night at rehearsal, carrying his home recording deck. At the end of the evening the band had recorded three songs: For a Day, Bloody Truth and Blue Sky. Johan took the recordings home with him and one week later returned with a fully completed demo. The sound quality is very good, considering that this is just an experiment. The band decided that this demo was good enough to be sent around to venues. Siger designed some artwork for it and For a 'Daymo' became the first step of Awake Mark 5 on the road to bigger and better things.

For a Day has appeared in several different forms and track listings. In the beginning it was used more as a small extra to be sold together with Tidal Wave. This way the band could still profit from the superb artwork on 'the blue one' and at the same time introduce their new singer. The basic shape consisted of the three songs mentioned before. A couple of songs were added later: Open Eyes, and Sound of Music are songs that Johan had written himself and recorded at home. These songs clearly show the influences of pop bands like Depeche Mode and add a new dimension to the sound of Awake. Open Eyes was used as opening song at the 'Rock=Bullshit' Festival. Driven by a midi computer it is a first example of the new path taken by Awake since the arrival of Johan. In March 2001 a sixth song was added: Don't Stop. This song, which did not come about without a fight would become the spearhead of Awake's new CD that was released early 2002.
